Losing A Friend, Not Memories

10. November 2006 began like any other day. Students at Tri-Valley High School ended the day and drove home. Before going home, a group of band students had to perform at the local elementary school. That was the last time some of us saw was our friend, Anthony Mitchell, alive.

This afternoon, Anthony was in a car accident. His truck ran the road and hit a tree. It is not sure why the accident happened, but it has been claimed by both his family and the OhioHighway Patrol, that no drugs or alcohol were involved in the accident.

It was not until Sunday, 12 November that we are the news that Anthony had died. We all knew that there had been an accident and that the outlook is not good, but we all hope and pray for Anthony to go into the room. We are all together in the house of his best friend, and soon our band director told us the news. Anthony gave us a great fight, but he did not make it through.

In the next weekwas strange. We did not know what was going on, and many of us did not want to go to school at all. We all are more than friends, we are family and a band. It was very difficult to adopt him. Soon it was time for the appointment and the hour of the funeral. We all wept and mourned the loss of our friend.

One of the best memories I have of Anthony, from the day of our home marching band competition. He and his best friend were on the road when the other boy a dog barked. The dog began to run after the boys, but they were not afraid. The dog was on a chain. Or so they thought. Anthony always ended a bit on the backside. He went to most of the band show.

And then there are the times that he caught chewing gum in class and the band director would just like to point to the Trash. We all knew what was going on and the whole room would fill with laughter. The countless nicknames and talents of Anthony will live on. He was just a great kid,and his smile was infectious.

Well, about a month later, we still feel the pain. We all know that Anthony is gone, but some of us do not want to believe it. I know I speak for all members of the band when I say, it's hard to say goodbye, but we will always remember Anthony as the cranky child who loved nature, made jokes and had a pet squirrel that he had saved, when it fell from a tree. He is gone, but he will never forget!
